At Shalom Torah Academy, frequent trips are incorporated into the children's academic schedule in order to enhance their learning through experience. Students of all ages, pre-school, middle grades and junior high school, will go on school trips regularly, throughout the year, in conjunction with the curriculum. For a nursery student learning about safety, a trip to the fire station brings the concepts to life. A third grader studying science gets a hand on experience at a see and touch museum. An eight grade overnight trip to Washington D.C. is a living and learning event of a lifetime. Trips to historical sites and famous places as well as "fun trips", such as berry picking, picnics and amusement centers, keep the school year alive with activity and generate enthusiasm for school. Many trips related to Judaic topics, such as attending the Jewish Children's Expo, visiting the U.S. Holocaust museum, or visiting an authentic Torah scribe, help portray our heritage and build Jewish pride. Students learn to be involved in the greater community, go on regular trips to local nursing homes, and participate in charity projects, including delivering gifts to the needy and sending aid to victims of terror in Israel. Participation in national spelling bees, the American Associations "Jump rope for heart", Newspaper in Education Month, Multiple Sclerosis Read-A-Thon, Chai Lifeline Camp Fund, and other school-wide and nation-wide educational projects, connects Shalom Torah students to children of the same ages in schools across the country. Hands-on or experiential learning is not limited to trips outside of school. Often, Shalom Torah Academy will invite professional speakers, lecturers and perfomers to offer presentations to the students on various subjects. Shalom Torah Academy is always alive with learning!
